Rug Size Guide

A good rug size is crucial for balancing aesthetics and functionality. Generally, for living rooms, a rug should extend 18 inches (or more) beyond the edges of furniture like sofas and coffee tables. For dining rooms, the rug should be large enough so chairs can be pulled out without catching on the edge. In bedrooms, a rug that extends beyond the sides of the bed, at least 60 cm, is a good choice.

Living Room:

  • Smaller Living Rooms:

A 120 x 170 cm rug can be perfect for smaller living rooms or under a coffee table in a medium-sized lounge.

  • Larger Living Rooms:

    A 200 x 300 cm or 240 x 340 cm rug can complement a floating three-seater sofa or a king-size bed, respectively.

  • Corner Sofas:

A 280 x 360 cm rug can accommodate large corner sofas and multiple seating arrangements.

Dining Room:

  • Six-Seater Table:

A 160 x 230 cm rug or larger is suitable for under a six-seater dining table.

  • Consider Chair Pulling:

Ensure the rug is wide enough to allow chairs to be pulled out comfortably without catching on the edge.

Bedrooms:

  • Under the Bed: A rug that extends beyond the sides of the bed, at least 60 cm, creates a balanced look.
  • Smaller Bedrooms: Consider using runners along each side of the bed for a cozy touch.

General Tips:

  • 18-inch Rule:

Aim for about 18 inches of bare floor around the rug's edges for a balanced look.

  • Bigger is Often Better:

If you're unsure, a larger rug is more likely to be a good fit and create a more unified space.

  • Consider Placement:

Think about how the rug will be used (under furniture, in front of a fireplace, etc.).
